Adam has worked in the wilderness therapy field since 1997. Adam grew up in suburban Washington, DC, where he lived until he left in 1997 to pursue work in wilderness settings. Adam started his outdoor career as a rock climbing guide and teacher, working with Hurricane Island Outward Bound in Baltimore and Adventure Schools Rock Climbing in Virginia. After a summer working as a climbing and caving director for a Quaker camp in West Virginia, Adam traveled to Florida, where he worked for a year with Outward Bound. In 1999, Adam started as a field instructor at Aspen Achievement Academy in Loa, Utah. At Aspen, Adam held a number of positions, including field instructor, trainer, medic, and emergency responder. Over the years, he has accumulated over 700 field days working directly with young people. Adam has held certifications as a wilderness first responder since 1997 and a wilderness emergency medical technician (W-EMT) since 2003. He earned EMT certification through the University of Utah and became a certified nursing assistant (CNA) through Weber State University in Ogden, UT in 2005. Adam has applied his medical training in various settings: wilderness therapy, ski resorts, and as a personal care aide with the elderly. In his free time, Adam guides family and friends on elk hunting trips, puts up new climbing routes on Southern Utah’s red rocks, and climbs snowy mountains throughout the mountain west. Adam’s love for the outdoors, his passion for safety, and his fun and caring nature make him a great person to have around in any setting.
