Summer Programs
Open Sky’s summer base camp (elevation 7,700') is located one hour from Durango in the San Juan Mountains near Dolores, Colorado. The base camp is hidden among a spectacular ponderosa pine forest while the expedition course area features a diverse terrain of mountains, plateaus, and alpine shrub lands filled with mountain lakes, deep canyons, creeks, waterfalls, flower-filled alpine meadows, and high spruce trees. Winter Programs
Open Sky’s winter base camp (elevation 6,300') is located an hour and forty-five minutes from Durango in the high desert region of southeastern Utah near the city of Blanding. The expedition course area and base camp are on archeologically-rich lands filled with pottery shards, hidden kivas, and petroglyphs. The vast, open desert is interspersed with massive, rugged canyons and topped off with piñon pine and juniper trees. When making a trip to Open Sky, you may want to explore nearby attractions such as Canyon of the Ancients National Monument, Mesa Verde National Park, Durango Mountain Resort, or one of the numerous hot springs nearby.
