Open Sky Wilderness Therapy is a licensed outdoor treatment program focused on personal wellness, therapeutic support, and behavioral change in teens and adults. Open Sky uses approaches supported by clinical research, using both traditional and innovative approaches to health and healing.
We are licensed…as a therapeutic program with the Department of Health and Human Services in the states of Utah and Colorado.
We treat...male and female teens between the ages of 13 and 17. We also treat young adults aged 18 to 28 in a separate adult program.
Our program length...is 5 to 12 weeks, paced according to individual needs.
Our clients…are teens and adults with behavioral and emotional issues, including substance abuse, ADD and ADHD, depression, anxiety, grief and loss, oppositional defiance, bipolar disorder, traumatic histories, family problems, and school problems. Our clients are often truant from school or work, fighting daily with family and friends, and/or having difficulty in daily life functioning.
Our unique approach...combines traditional therapeutic approaches, naturopathic medicine, innovative substance abuse treatments, organic whole-foods nutrition, and healthy outdoor living for all of our students.
Our staff…are Masters and Doctorate-level counselors, Ivy League-trained managers, and educated and experienced field guides. We have a variety of medical training backgrounds on staff, including naturopathic doctors (ND), conventional physicians (MD), emergency medical technicians (EMT), and wilderness first responders (WFR).
Our therapy…utilizes the most current, proven methods for healing. Open Sky therapists spend two days each week in the field with students providing individual and group psychotherapy and offer weekly updates to family via teleconference. Open Sky staff facilitate daily process groups for our students, individual check-ins, and a wide range of experiential learning activities.
Open Sky families…participate in every step of treatment. Families have weekly phone calls with their Open Sky therapist, do weekly therapeutic assignments in a family workbook, participate in psychoeducational teleconferences with other Open Sky families, and attend a Parent Wellness Weekend in Durango.
Our cost…is $485 per day, plus a $2,000 enrollment fee. We are happy to help you work with your insurance company to determine if inpatient benefits can help cover costs. Open Sky accepts payment in the form of check, wire transfer, or credit card (Visa, MC & AmEx).
Our commitment to your family…includes thorough aftercare planning. Our therapists work closely with your family, educational consultants, and home therapists to ensure your child’s continued success after Open Sky. We encourage families to work with educational consultants to assist in the treatment planning process.
We admit…students on a rolling basis. We can accommodate both weekday and weekend admissions. Our admissions and clinical staff will work efficiently with you to ensure that your child is appropriate for Open Sky. Our staff can arrange escort services for you or can pick up your child at the airport.
