Chama River, New Mexico

If you are interested in a rejuvenating family vacation with meaningful bonding, we hope you will join us for this unforgettable family river adventure.  The trip will include three days on the Chama River, a day of activities in and around Durango, and driving time to and from the River. The Chama's 35-miles offer moderate Class I-II whitewater through an exquisite and pristine river environment distinguished by sage-covered hillsides, heavily-forested canyons, and red sandstone cliffs.   The Chama has been protected as a Wild and Scenic River since 1988.

This trip will provide a leisurely pace to soak in the sun and solitude, explore side canyons or learn to paddle in swift-moving but very reasonable rapids.  This launch is exclusive and guarantees a wilderness experience.  Customary to all Open Sky offerings, there will be a variety of family activities during the trip including camp set-up, preparing and cooking meals, practicing yoga & meditation, hiking, and paddling on the river together.  The course's goal is to create a wonderful family bonding experience to build upon for years to come.
