Lauren Lollini (left) at CTLA Dinner Awards EventOpen Sky’s admissions director, Lauren Lollini receives statewide recognition with the 2010 Consumer Protection Award from the Colorado Trial Lawyers Association (CTLA).

Lauren contracted Hepatitis C after a routine surgery where a surgical technician had been diverting drugs for personal use from operating rooms and spreading Hepatitis C to patients.  Lauren chose to speak out and started working with national and local Hepatitis C organizations, visited Washington D.C. to participate in a patient advocacy event, and met with local and national legislatures.  Much of this came about as a result of bravely coming forward to news and media outlets in the Denver area.

Each year, CTLA acknowledges an individual, group or organization, which has proposed legislation, fought a legal battle or stood up for consumer rights in an extraordinary fashion.  CTLA, the largest specialty bar association in the state, honored Lauren Lollini with the 2010 Consumer Protection Award at the organization’s 13th Annual Spring Dinner on Thursday, May 13 at the Marriott Denver City Center.  Previous award recipients include US Congressman and State Senators.  Read more: Lauren Lollini CTLA Award press release 5.10

Lauren Lollini with Colorado Governor Bill RitterIn addition, Lauren was an honored guest of Colorado Governor Bill Ritter during the signing of two new bills that regulate hospital surgical technicians.  “Not only will the new legislation help keep track of surgical techs, through DORA’s registry, but also will hold health care facilities accountable by requiring them to report any suspected drug diversion, misuse and misconduct immediately, and to name the person involved,” according to a press release from ABC News Channel 7 in Denver .

Open Sky is proud of Lauren’s contribution to patient health and safety.
