Jill Hutcheson, MA
Clinical Outreach Director
Over the past 25 years Jill has concentrated her personal and professional passion in the areas of counseling, education, and wellness. She earned her B.A. in Education in 1986 and her M.A. in Counseling in 1991. For 15 years, she served as the primary counselor for adolescent and college students who were struggling in school with emotional and behavioral problems. In this role, Jill provided weekly individual and group therapy sessions with students of varied backgrounds. As a Counselor and Assistant to the Dean of Student Development at Pima Community College in Tucson, AZ, Jill specialized in working with diverse cultural populations including several Native American Indian Tribes offering personal and academic counseling.
With the intention of broadening her awareness about integrative wellness, it was only fitting that Jill sought professional opportunities in the fields of physical and spiritual health as well. For three years, Jill was the Regional Vice President for an international and highly reputable health and wellness company. It was here that Jill discovered her passion for educating others about the importance of botanically based products that are pure, safe and beneficial for personal well-being and the environment. For her efforts, Jill was featured in the national online e-magazine Connections for Women as The Amazing Tucson Woman in October 2007.
Throughout her career, Jill has designed and directed several educational programs to serve youth at risk where her mission was to increase student’s self-esteem, GPA, attendance, course completion, and graduation rate, all while expanding their learning potential. Jill has authored two manuals, Bridging the Gap for Continued Success and Life Skills which have been used at the college level in the State of Iowa. During her teaching days, Jill received the Who’s Who Among High School Teachers Award for 1990, 1991, 2002, 2003, and 2004, an award based on the nominations by her students. Jill served as the Executive Director for the Durango Foundation of Educational Excellence, a non-profit whose purpose is to enhance educational excellence within the rural district by providing funding for projects and programs that fall outside the possibilities of the district budget.
Feeling compelled to blend her expansive experience in the fields of counseling, wellness and education, Jill was inspired to start her own personal coaching business. She earned her Life Coach Certification from The Life Coach Institute under Dr. Shad Helmstedder. Her coaching model emphasized the importance of achieving holistic life balance for lasting success. After tremendous success on her own, Jill became the National Director of Admissions for The Life Coach Institute where she encouraged clients to realize and manifest their goals and dreams.
In September of 2010, Jill was honored by the invitation to co-facilitate at the Omega Institute for Holistic Studies in Rhinebeck, NY with renowned author and international speaker Raphael Cushnir on the topics of “the emotional connection and present moment awareness.”
Jill’s infectious positive energy and her commitment to helping people become emotionally, physically, and spiritually balanced has made her a wonderful fit for Open Sky. In her spare time, you can find her hiking and running the back roads of Durango.
