In Wilderness Therapy Since
Susanna has worked in education since 2004 and in the therapeutic field since 2012. She earned both her undergraduate degree and her Master’s in the Art of Teaching from Colorado College. While at CC, Susanna developed a passion for all things outdoors as well as a keen interest in working with students in various capacities. She also became very involved in community service at Colorado College, leading one of the college’s first international service trips to install solar electricity at a monastery in rural India.
While earning her Master’s degree, Susanna taught secondary English and focused on the importance of empowering students to own their education and their process. Her thesis project concentrated on increasing student awareness around their own role within their education and teaching students the value of self-evaluation throughout their school experience. She believes empowering students and helping them discover their strengths, passions, and capabilities will lead to success far beyond the classroom setting.
After teaching in a traditional classroom for several years, Susanna discovered her passion for admissions in 2012, when she began working at a therapeutic boarding school. Informed by her background in education, Susanna approaches admissions with a recognition of each student’s unique needs and is able to compassionately guide families through what can be an emotional and challenging process. She is passionate about helping students and families make positive changes in their lives, and she believes whole heartedly in the wilderness experience and the philosophy of Open Sky.
Susanna joins the Open Sky team having seen hundreds of wilderness success stories while at a therapeutic boarding school. Having accomplished something difficult yet fulfilling, those students were ready to take on the world. She is excited to be a part of that process.
Based in Park City, Utah, Susanna spends her free time enjoying the outdoors with her husband and two dogs, trying to play golf, and cheering on the Seattle Seahawks.
