Dr. Fred Peipman has worked with adolescents, young adults, and families as a clinical psychologist and mental health counselor since 1996. Dr. Fred grew up in Papua, New Guinea and returned to the USA at age 14 to continue his education. In 1994 he graduated from Yale University with a BA in music and psychology. Dr. Fred continued his education at the University of Bridgeport, graduating with a MS in mental health counseling. He earned a PhD from the University of Miami in counseling psychology in 2002.
Dr. Fred has authored several peer-reviewed articles on adolescent and women’s health risk behaviors. He has lectured nationally and internationally to parents, young people, and professionals on adolescent health risk behaviors, internet safety and awareness, and online social networking and cyber-psychology. Dr. Fred’s extensive experience administering and interpreting psychological assessments has allowed him to use these findings to create a comprehensive and multi-dimensional approach to working with young people and their families.
Dr. Fred’s areas of specialty include clinical assessment, mood disorders, anxiety, substance abuse, self-harm, trauma, ADHD, oppositional defiance, parent/child relationships, and internet/technology addiction. He is known in the field for his warmth, compassion, blunt honesty, and wonderful sense of humor. His treatment approach combines dialectic and cognitive-behavioral therapy, motivational interviewing, mindfulness-based therapy, and family therapy.
Dr. Fred loves being outdoors and feels at home in the natural world. When not working, he loves snowboarding, traveling, sailing, scuba diving, singing, kayaking, and cooking.
