Robin has worked with adolescents, young adults and their families in wilderness and the outdoors since 1983. After almost 1,000 days as a field guide in various therapeutic and outdoor education programs, Robin received her Master’s degree in Counseling Psychology with a certificate in Adventure Based Counseling from Prescott College.

Robin has been with Open Sky since its inception in 2006 where she began as a field guide. She believes that working in wilderness while building relationships is a powerful catalyst to change and growth. Robin is a certified addictions counselor and enjoys working with students struggling with substance abuse/chemical dependency issues and related precursors, such as trauma, anxiety and depression. Using a combination of Cognitive Behavioral and Solution Focused Brief Therapy, Robin believes in facilitating student’s ability to see their own self efficacy.

A spiritual seeker and wanderer at heart, Robin continues on the path of discovery and potential. Her therapeutic approach and practice has been shaped by exploring mindfulness training by sitting 10 day silent meditation retreats; spending time with Franciscan monks exploring Christian mysticism; herding sheep and living with Dine elders on the Navajo reservation; and serving the homeless while listening to their philosophies about life and the universe.

Robin is an avid mountaineer and back packer. Robin is also an adventure cyclist and has pedaled a few thousand miles. “I’ve met hundreds of people and I have learned something very valuable from each one”.
