Whitney Dwyer

Whitney Dwyer, BA

Office Assistant

Whitney grew up in Glen Rose, TX, a town of 2,000 people, with her younger sister and baby brother.  During her youth, she spent much of her time outdoors and traveling the United States and Canada with her grandparents.

After visiting France upon graduating high school, Whitney decided to minor in French at The University of North Texas in Denton, TX.  She also minored in archaeology and received her BA in Geography.  As a student of archaeology, Whitney participated in two 30 day excavations in Greece and northwest Oklahoma.  During college, Whitney spent four years as an early childhood education research assistant.  She then began volunteering at an outdoor science education center where she was quickly recruited as an instructor.  At Elm Fork, Whitney taught students in grades K-8 hands-on lessons in the fields of archaeology, paleontology, and aquatic studies.  While at Elm Fork, Whitney also worked in a biology lab identifying aquatic macroinvertebrates for local stream health studies.

One year after graduation, working as a substitute teacher, Whitney moved to Durango for a change of scenery.  She has worked as a marketing director at a music venue, an archaeological technician, and a barista before finding her home at Open Sky Wilderness.

When she's not working, Whitney can almost always be found in her garden or playing with her friends' dogs (until she can get her own!).  She also teaches yoga at the Rock Lounge Durango.
