Hannah Salander, MA
Family Quest Therapist
Hannah brings a creative, depthy and experiential approach to working with families and students on family quests at Open Sky. Hannah has been working with youth and families since 2003 in a variety of capacities in community mental health and outreach settings, in child and family advocacy work and after school programming. She incorporates creative expression and art making as a means for therapeutic inquiry, insight and authentic communication. Her training as a master’s level transpersonal counselor and art therapist from Naropa University adds to a dynamic approach to human development, trauma, resilience and relationship. She utilizes mindfulness and body awareness practices with clients as a means for harnessing inner resources while working toward positive life change and commitment.
Her love of nature has informed her movements in the world and has led her deep into the mountains and desert, both on a personal level and career path. Hannah was a field guide for Open Sky in 2006 and has led wilderness and Rites of Passage trips for The Women’s Wilderness Institute and local Buddhist retreat center, Tara Mandala. She has been leading family quests since August 2008 and feels passionate about the opportunity to witness and support families coming together in a wilderness setting during times of transition and growth at Open Sky.
