Kendall Smith, LCPC, NCC, RYT

Family Services Therapist / Trainer

From a very young age, Kendall’s career vision was to work as a therapist with families in an out-of office environment. She set her eyes on this mark and is delighted to be in service at Open Sky as a Licensed Professional Counselor and Family Therapist.

After graduating cum laude with a double major in Psychology and Religion Kendall took a position as the Coordinator of the Cognitive Development Center at Colorado University, Boulder. She moved directly from that position into her graduate school education in Transpersonal Counseling Psychology with an emphasis in Wilderness Therapy at Naropa University. This triad of neuroscience research, study of ancient spiritual traditions and experiential, nature-based therapy is the theme through Kendall’s life and professional career.

Kendall has worked as a clinician in a variety of settings with diverse populations. She has provided services to teens and their families in the foster-care system, in an addiction recovery center, and in a residential wilderness school. As the clinical director of Horse Sense of the Carolinas, Inc., she facilitated equine-assisted psychotherapy sessions for a wide range of clients, including hospice groups, oppositional defiant youth, ADHD and Spectrum Disorder clients, and families struggling with adoption issues, trauma, addiction, sexual identity issues, and depression. Most recently she worked as a staff counselor at a small, prestigious, liberal arts college, and as a yoga therapist in a holistic clinic in Washington, DC.

Kendall is a member of the American Counseling Association; she is a Nationally Certified Counselor and a Registered Yoga Teacher with over 500 hours of training in yoga (specific training in yoga for mental health). Kendall brings a decade of experience working therapeutically with youth and families. She is known for her ability to be nonjudgmental and encouraging while simultaneously holding clients accountable. Underlying her clinical expertise is a genuine curiosity in the person, couple or family that she is engaged with.

Kendall is honored to help people re-connect to themselves, their intimate relationships and the natural world. She tries hard every day to practice what she preaches through yoga, meditation, eating whole nutritious foods, getting offline and into the wild with her favorite canine companion, and by cherishing her friends and family.
