Tanya Dalebout, BA
Family Services Coordinator
Tanya was born in Washington State and her early years were spent outside exploring nature, playing with friends, and doing chores around the farm. This spurred a life long passion for the outdoors and nature. It is no wonder she made it to working at Open Sky many years later.
After earning her Associates of Arts degree, Tanya enjoyed a fruitful career in the retail industry. Her work encompassed establishing new stores, training employees, and presenting motivational talks about positive attitude in the workplace. In 1998, she was sent to Durango to help open a local store. It was a large promotion and without knowing anything about Durango, Tanya packed up her things and loaded up her Great Dane, Odion, and it changed her life forever.
She decided to leave the retail scene and further her education at Fort Lewis College, here in Durango, where she successfully earned her BA in Elementary Education with an ESL (English as a Second Language) endorsement.
While Open Sky was Tanya’s first experience in wilderness therapy, she believes it has given her the opportunity to reconnect with nature and to assist in her own personal growth. Tanya believes deeply in the healing power of nature and its ability to assist people in gaining acceptance for who they are, away from the constant pressures society demands. In addition to being in nature, Tanya enjoys scuba diving, animals, listening to others, and has a strong passion for holistic health.
