Danny graduated cum laude from Texas A&M University with a Bachelor’s of Business Administration in Management with an emphasis in Human Resources in 1997. Over the years since, Danny has received extensive training in applied strategic planning, marketing, business development, and leadership. At Open Sky, he works primarily in admissions. With his easy-going nature, calming presence, and extensive experience as a wilderness guide, Danny provides students and families with support and reassurance during the admissions and enrollment process at Open Sky.
In 1996, Danny worked as a summer intern for Galena Ridge Wilderness Program, inspiring him to pursue work in the field of wilderness therapy upon graduating college. In 1998, he began as a field guide for Aspen Achievement Academy, eventually moving into the position of Field Director. For 6 consecutive summers, Danny worked for the Voyageur Outward Bound School in Montana as an instructor, course director, trainer, and program logistics manager. Between Aspen and Outward Bound, Danny has accrued over 700 field days as a field instructor.
Danny’s passion for the wilderness was ignited at an early age, wandering the undeveloped hill country of Austin, Texas. He had his first foray into the mountains of Colorado as a boy with his father and brother. The connection he felt during this time in the wilderness as a youth became his life calling; he is dedicated to facilitating these experiences for youth, adults, and families. Danny is a founder and co-owner of Open Sky.
During his free time, Danny spends time with his wife hiking in the canyon country of the southwest, backcountry skiing in the San Juans, and mountain biking the world renowned trails in Durango.
