Adam Merce, EMT

Field Medic

Adam has worked in the wilderness therapy field since 1997 as a field guide, field trainer, field medic, logistical support staff, and emergency responder.  Adam was first certified as an emergency medical technician (EMT) in 2001 and brings over a decade of experience in the wilderness setting and beyond.  He is a certified CPR and first aid instructor and offers regular trainings for both Open Sky and various community organizations.  Adam is a volunteer fire fighter and a core member of Durango's Search and Rescue team.  He is a founder and part owner of Open Sky.

The students respond to Adam's down-to-earth, fun demeanor, and they also know that when it comes to safety and self-care, he means business!  Adam grew up outside of Washington, DC and has been living in the mountain west since 1999. When he's not ensuring no cell phone use in company vehicles, Adam is an avid back country enthusiast and rock climber.
