Sarah Smith, RN

Health Director

Sarah holds a Bachelor’s degree in Nursing from the University of Maine. She spent the first 5 years of her nursing career working in the hospital where she specialized in Intensive Care Nursing. Sarah decided to leave the hospital setting in 2014 and pursue an interest in wilderness medicine. She completed her Wilderness First Responder certification in the summer of 2014 and signed on with Open Sky shortly after as a Medical Case Manager. After 7 months in that position, she became Open Sky’s Health Director. Sarah enjoys working at Open Sky because it allows her to combine her love for the outdoors and her passion for promoting health and wellness to others. She enjoys connecting with students and empowering them to take charge of their own wellbeing.

Sarah is a lover of the outdoors and she spends her time off playing in the mountains and wilderness surrounding the Durango area. Hiking, camping, skiing, and mountain biking are her favorite activities. Sarah and her fiancé Ryan are in the process of building a Tiny House on wheels and are hoping to be moved in by the fall of 2016.
