Barry joined Open Sky after a several years away from wilderness therapy and residential treatment.  Barry got in this line of work in 1997 working at a residential treatment program and then later as a field guide for Aspen Achievement Academy beginning in 2001.  In between, he earned his Bachelor's in English and American Studies from Utah State University.  Barry moved into field leadership at Aspen and eventually served as program director for the Aspen Ranch for a couple years.  In addition to his vast and varied leadership experience in wilderness and residential work, Barry is also an exceptional carpenter and originally moved to the Durango area to pursue that work as a new career path.

After lending a hand filling in for a few stints providing logistical support, Barry joined Open Sky full-time in the summer of 2009. He is a natural with students and field guides and provides tremendous leadership for the day-to-day operations.

Barry is married and has a beautiful young daughter.  He enjoys being back in the field and yet having the luxury of nights with his family.  When not out and about assisting our teams, he enjoys mountain biking and fly fishing.  In what spare time is left over, he is pursuing a career diploma in AutoCad drafting and design.
