Evan grew up in North Carolina and graduated from Appalachian State University with a major in Outdoor Education and a minor in Psychology. He began working in wilderness therapy in 2001 and has over 800 days of experience in the field as a guide and in support positions. He joined Open Sky as a guide in 2007.
Evan has worked as a crew leader on trail construction crews for six separate seasons. He has built miles of the continental divide trail in Idaho and worked to improve sections of the Appalachian Trail in Maine. Evan has over 1,000 days in the field working with conservation and recreation based wilderness programs. Evan recently worked for four years as an arborist, climbing and pruning large trees and memorizing Latin names like Psuedotsuga menziesii.
With years experience in wilderness therapy, Evan is an asset to the operations team. He is known for his calm and responsible air, reliable support, and mechanical knowledge.
When Evan is not supporting students and guides in the field, he enjoys mountain biking, skiing, and climbing mountains. He feels very fortunate to be working in our beautiful operation area.
