October is Therapeutic Wilderness Awareness Month! In recognition of this, we invite you to join The Jason William Hunt Foundation (JWHF) and wilderness programs across the country in the Jason’s Day Virtual 5K Charity Event! The JWHF exists to raise and provide financial aid for teens at-risk to attend to Therapeutic Wilderness Expedition Treatment Programs (TWE) and grants to qualified outdoor educators/leader training programs.
With the virtual 5K event, lovers of the outdoors can join together–from afar–to be active outside, spread awareness of wilderness therapy, and build financial support for families in need. Participants may allocate funds raised to any affiliated treatment provider, including Open Sky!
No! As a virtual 5K participant, you may select your activity of choice! Do you love to hike or bike? Do you prefer to be on or in the water, swimming, rowing, or paddling? Would you rather use stationary equipment? No matter the activity, you can participate!
You select the date and time in the month of October! Due to the “virtual” nature of this event, the JWHF invites participants to join in when it works for them. JWHF also shared that there is no specific date set for the event partly because of the rotating work schedules for many wilderness therapy staff, to include as many businesses/sponsors as possible, and to make it feasible for as many participants as possible under current Covid-19 restrictions. And since the entire month is Therapeutic Wilderness Awareness Month, why not spread out the fun?
Click here to head to the event registration page. There, you will be able to sign up, pay the $30 registration fee (fee increases after August 22), and select your treatment provider of choice. Would you like to invite others to make donations and sponsor your participation? They can do so via the same link.
So, you’ve signed up for the Jason’s Day Virtual 5K. Congrats! Now it’s time to train for your goal, inform your community about wilderness therapy, and invite others along for the (socially connected yet physically distant) ride! You could even create a friendly competition surrounding the fundraiser at work or in your family! Once you’ve completed your Virtual 5K event in October, share your selfies with the hashtag #jasonsdayv5k. We can’t wait to participate alongside you…virtually, that is!
