Open Sky is excited to announce we are hiring for two positions within our medical team. We are seeking hard-working, experienced individuals to fill the roles of Assistant Health Director and Medical Coordinator. Each position offers a great opportunity to gain experience in the medical field while working for a dynamic, outdoor organization. Learn more about each of these unique positions below.
The Assistant Health Director collaborates with the Health Director and treatment team to provide exemplary client care, customer service, and data management. This position also interfaces with many of Open Sky’s other departments, such as admissions, clinical, and field and operations, to continue to advance how Open Sky cares for students and responds to medical situations.
“The Assistant Health Director position is ideally suited for someone who already has some experience in medicine and would like to learn more about mental and behavioral health,” said Danny Frazer, Program Director for Open Sky. “They’ll learn about psychiatric care, family therapy, as well as our integrative and holistic approach to treatment.”
The Assistant Health Director is based out of Open Sky’s office in Durango, Colorado and will regularly visit Open Sky’s base camp to conduct medical checks for students and connect with staff in the field.
“The right candidate for this position will thrive working in a dynamic, interdisciplinary team,” said Danny. “As a part of the program team leadership, the assistant health director has influence beyond the medical department. They’re integral to shaping Open Sky strategy and culture.”
Additionally, the Assistant Health Director works alongside and learns from Open Sky’s Health Director, Adrienne Zimmerman. Adrienne is a physician’s assistant and has 20 years of experience in emergency medicine, wilderness medicine, and urgent care settings.
“This is a great opportunity to get some medical coaching and mentorship,” said Danny.

Based out of Open Sky’s office in Durango, Colorado, this position centers on the administrative tasks that are essential to operating Open Sky’s wilderness therapy program. “This job would appeal to someone who likes variety and is detail-oriented,” said Danny. “It is a great springboard into any number of career opportunities in the department, leadership development in the organization, and offers great exposure to the field of medicine more broadly.”
