Adam Smith holds both bachelor’s and master’s degrees in business administration with a focus on finance and accounting from the University of Arizona. While at Arizona, Adam was awarded both the Finance Student of the Year and overall Business Student of the Year for his leadership and academic achievements. Adam achieved his CPA in 2010 and his ACC (Associate Certified Coach) in 2014.
Adam is a seasoned CFO and executive coach with over 20 years of experience. Adam began his career in investment banking at Credit Suisse, where he assisted small and large companies with their IPO, M&A, capital raises, and leveraged buyout needs. Adam has held numerous senior corporate finance and accounting positions at Intel, KPMG, IBM, and at smaller organizations as well.
Adam found his way to Open Sky while working as a fractional CFO at Open Sky. During the nine months of working together, both Open Sky and Adam recognized their strong alignment in values, mission, and culture. In June 2021, Adam became Open Sky’s full-time CFO.
Adam’s expertise includes financial strategy, reporting, modeling, forecasting, budgeting, pricing, valuation, new product launches, coaching, caring, empathy, and focus on the triple bottom line: people, planet, and profit.
Adam enjoys spending time with his wife of 25 years and four teenage sons, traveling, camping, snowboarding, cycling, and teaching. Before moving to Colorado, Adam and his family spent one year living in Costa Rica, where they fully immersed themselves in a different culture. Outside of work, Adam volunteers for a non-profit training and education organization that hosts life-changing experiential personal development programs for men. Adam has also taught various finance and entrepreneurship courses at the University of Arizona and Portland State University on topic including corporate finance, valuation, and mindful entrepreneurship.
