Alex joined Open Sky in 2020 with many years of experience backpacking, mountaineering, climbing, white water rafting, and risk management in the wilderness in a wide variety of settings. He spent 4 years working in the outdoor education and adventure education industry. He gained experience working for wilderness programs at UC Santa Cruz, Camp Tawonga, and the Northwest Outward Bound School. These roles working with students showed him how much he cares about people’s growth in the outdoors, so he pursued work in an outdoor therapeutic setting and found Open Sky.
In the field guide role, Alex values the way time outside with students naturally provides space for people to interrelate to their surroundings and other people. He appreciates facilitating a simplified life with basic tasks to take care of oneself in very tangible ways. He enjoys the fun, joy, challenge, and growth that the job allows. Within a guide team, Alex is a goofy and fun-loving person who is quick to laugh. He brings a lot of care and intentionality to how he interacts with others and the world around him.
During his time off, Alex loves to climb, hang out with friends, backpack, travel, and play basketball.
