Betsy Mueller

Medical Care Coordinator

Betsy grew up on the shores of the upper Mississippi River with a biologist as a father and a nurse as a mother. She was fortunate to be raised immersed in nature while being taught to respect and have compassion for all beings. After graduating from college in Minnesota with a liberal arts degree, Betsy ventured to Florida, where she worked and went to school in a zoo, obtaining a degree in zoo animal science while working for the US Geological Survey. Since then, she has continued to have a wide variety of fun adventures, experiences, and jobs, all of which have helped her to grow and gain knowledge in many areas, both on a personal and professional level.

Besty’s past job experiences include working with guide dogs for visually impaired people; running a residential program for adults with developmental delays; collaborating with shamans, indigenous elders, scientists, and local herders in snow leopard range countries to protect these elusive big cats; starting projects to study mountain lions and train conservation scent detection dogs in California; and working as a medication program manager at an assisted living facility. Betsy has no shortage of fun and interesting stories to share. Sprinkle in a few other jobs, lots of travel adventures throughout the US and internationally, and interactions with countless fascinating people of all ages, abilities, and nationalities, and Betsy can happily say she has a very interesting life!

After hearing from a friend working at Open Sky, Betsy read through the website and immediately knew it would be a great fit for her. The holistic approach to healing through nature immersion and supportive therapy that Open Sky uses aligns with Betsy’s own beliefs and practices.

When not at work, Betsy can be found somewhere outside, usually by water and/or reading a good book, practicing Tai Chi, eating good food, hanging out with cats and dogs or friends and family, or traveling or planning her next adventure.
