Brian Phelps joined the Open Sky team as a guide in June 2018 with two and a half years of wilderness therapy experience at another program. In the past, he has taught English in Nepal and has summited altitudes beyond 20,000 ft. in the Himalayas.
Brian was drawn to the field and the work of Open Sky due largely to the emphasis on mindfulness. Yoga and meditation practice has always helped him feel centered. He believes it helps students maintain a more centered baseline consciousness, helping them deal with life’s challenges in a more productive way.
As a field guide, Brian values connection he builds with the students and the beautiful land they live in. He enjoys bringing a fun and light-hearted energy to the guides and students. He has a warm, inviting energy that helps people feel comfortable.
In his time off, Brian loves to ski, climb, and play music.
