Before joining Open Sky as a field guide, Erin graduated from Appalachian State University with a degree in sustainable development and a concentration in environmental studies. While in college, she explored the Blue Ridge Mountains, hiking, camping, and finding river spots. In the summers off from college, she worked as a beach lifeguard with emergency medical responder certification.
Erin was attracted to wilderness therapy for its strong culture and she wanted to be able to support others in their healing in the outdoors. What attracted her to Open Sky in particular is the program’s incorporation of yoga and mindfulness practices. What Erin values most about her role as a field guide is the safety and boundaries that guides provide to students while they’re living in wilderness. Erin’s strengths within a guide team include her compassion and willingness to learn.
During her time off, Erin likes to practice yoga, forage for mushrooms, do crafts, sew, and play outside.
