Evan Meyer, BA

Field Director

Evan discovered wilderness therapy after leading and participating in wilderness adventures with the Colorado Rocky Mountain School in Carbondale. There he led high school students on successful backcountry expeditions. Later, while earning his BA in Sociology from Fort Lewis College, he heard about Open Sky. His desire to facilitate a deeper connection with the wilderness and community led him to become a field guide.

Evan has been with Open Sky since 2009, moving into the role of field manager after two years as a guide. Later, he transferred his knowledge over to the family services department, where he supported family quests. Evan has a deep love and dedication that he brings to his work every day. His mission as Field Director is to provide the most safe and effective field experience for all students and field members by building a supportive and competent field guide community.

In addition to working at Open Sky, Evan is learning how to irrigate 80 acres of ranch land in the Mancos Valley and dabbling in animal husbandry. He also enjoys mountain biking, archery, paragliding, and babysitting his young niece. He is always on the lookout for a fantasy novel that rivals The Lord of the Rings.

About Open Sky

Since 2006, Open Sky Wilderness Therapy has been providing the premier family-centered wilderness therapy experience. The Open Sky approach transcends traditional wilderness therapy by emphasizing treatment for the whole family not just the adolescent or young adult, and the application of evidence-based clinical modalities with innovative, well-researched holistic healing practices such as yoga, meditation and mindfulness.
