Hannah joined the Open Sky team as a field guide in January 2017. Prior to that role, she worked as a trip leader for Iowa State University’s Outdoor Recreation Program and as a Backpacking Instructor at NOLS (National Outdoor Leadership School).
Before coming to Open Sky, she found the most significant changes in her own life both mentally and spiritually through spending months at a time in the wilderness. She wanted to help others also experience wilderness in a life-changing way. She followed her intuition and found meaningful work at Open Sky. Hannah believes that the students' greatest teacher is & will always be the wilderness with its natural lessons, consequences, and teachings. She loves seeing the transformative work over time that the wilderness does within every student.
Hannah moved up as a Senior Guide with strengths of creativity, flexibility, and the ability to work cohesively with any guide team. Now, as Field Director, Hannah continues leading field staff in providing physical and emotional safety to students, demonstrating excellence and grit daily, and creating a positive culture within student teams and the staff community.
During her time off, she enjoys painting murals, drawing, and watercoloring. She takes advantage of the outdoors as much as possible rock climbing, canyoneering, and trail running. She also loves to spend quality time with the Durango community and traveling/exploring the beautiful Southwestern states.
