James Sibelle, EMT

Field Medic

James originally certified as an EMT over a decade ago while attending Portland Community College, in Portland, Oregon. Over time, James continued to train in wilderness medicine and became a Wilderness First Aid instructor, which allowed him to work more closely with people of all ages interested in getting closer to the natural world.

For many years James called the North East home. Born in Massachusetts, he spent his early years wandering the woods behind his parent’s home believing they went on forever. His sense of adventure has taken him across the globe on personal and professional pursuits. His work experience spans working in the circus, traditional summer camp, outdoor education, and coordinating wilderness programs for teens living with serious and chronic illness. Working on the Open Sky team allows James to practice one of his passions: providing young people with the tools to thrive. As a Field Medic, James is part of a team that takes a holistic approach to students’ wellbeing.

In his free time, James enjoys learning how to be the best person he can from his partner, as well as running, walking, sitting, sliding, floating, and rolling in the outdoors. He continues to volunteer his time as Director of Leadership with an international nonprofit and become a more impactful member of his local community.
