Jane was born and raised in Wisconsin to a physician father, who taught her the importance of compassion and care for others. She followed in his footsteps and became a nurse (Bachelors degree, 1985) beginning as a Neonatal Intensive Care Nurse and eventually specializing in psychiatric nursing of children and adolescents. She stepped off the "beaten path" when she became an outdoor educator in 1987, leading wilderness expeditions for decades for organizations such as Outward Bound, the National Outdoor Leadership School, the University of Alaska, Prescott College, and many more. She earned her first Masters degree in Outdoor Education from Western Illinois University in 1998.
During Jane's work in outdoor education, her attention and interest were always drawn to the human psyche - mind and heart - both in its wounded and its healing forms. She followed this magnetic draw back to graduate school where she earned two further Masters degrees in Counseling Psychology and School Counseling from Prescott College (2009 and 2013, respectively). As a therapist, Jane has developed the following therapeutic specialties: neuro-psychology, trauma, attachment, behavioral analysis and modification, child and adolescent therapy, couples and family therapy, addiction recovery, and the treatment of serious mental illness. She brings an eclectic mix of modalities to her work, including trauma-informed therapy, mindfulness-based therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, somatically-based therapy, Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, and others. She is also a certified yoga instructor.
Jane absolutely loves the work she does as a part of Open Sky’s Family Services Team. Through leading Family Quests and Wellness Weekends, she has facilitated and witnessed some of the deepest, most profoundly transformational work she has ever experienced as a therapist.
When she is not working, you will likely find Jane floating down some river in the West, trail running in the mountains, listening and dancing to live music, or swinging from a hammock in the backyard of her beloved home.
