Jim has a BA in Sociology from Bethany College in West Virginia. He grew up on Long Island, New York. Moving to West Virginia and receiving a liberal arts degree was a mind-expanding experience for Jim. As he earned his degree, he became interested in how groups lived and worked together. From that, he developed an interest in affecting young people's lives.
After graduating, he learned about wilderness therapy and became a guide in 1993. His guiding experience led him to launch a nonprofit that not only supported but encouraged middle-school kids to play and interact in the wilderness.
In 2008, Jim heard about Open Sky's wellness approach to wilderness therapy. He started as a guide and has been on board ever since. Six years later, he joined the operations team. He loves the dynamic nature of Open Sky and believes in the mission. He values and respects the wilderness and loves to share this with the students.
When not working, Jim enjoys riding his mountain bike and motorcycles, swimming, reading, dancing, and being with friends.
