JJ grew up amidst the flatlands and tall buildings of Columbus, Ohio, but was always destined to live in the mountains. Through her college’s outdoor program in Portland, Oregon, she fell in love with adventuring outside and began leading others on trips. For many years throughout Oregon and Colorado, she led expedition backpacking and mountaineering trips for youth. JJ moved into the wilderness therapy industry as a way to explore using the outdoors to its highest potential: guiding others’ transformation and growth through shared outdoor experiences.
Since JJ started working at Open Sky in 2015, she has worked in various departments of the company. Her passion for research initially brought her to the team as Research Coordinator. She has since acted as operations support in food manager and transporter roles, as a field guide, and most recently as an administrative assistant. Currently, she serves as Family Care Coordinator, supporting administrative and communication needs for families and therapists of adolescent girls. JJ is excited to use her expansive knowledge of the program and dynamically multitask to support all aspects of Open Sky and its clients.
Southwest Colorado has been JJ's home base since 2012. During her free time, she relishes the outdoor recreational opportunities in both the mountains and desert available across all four seasons. One of her fondest activities is driving across the state amidst the canyons, mountains, and valleys, oh my.
