Senior Guide

Justin Powell found wilderness therapy to be the perfect fit for him because he desired to be outside, help others, and do something he is passionate about. For him, field guiding at Open Sky fulfills each of these desires. He believes in the therapeutic power of the wilderness and has seen it transform the lives of the students at Open Sky.

In the field, Justin values his connections with the students and the guide team, sharing passions and forming bonds with other people. Their priorities are caring for the students and encouraging them to be the best version of themselves. Justin loves being a part of the positive change facilitated by the group setting and shared connection with the wilderness.

Justin brings compassion, honesty, and resilience to the guide team. He finds strength in the culture of feedback that Open Sky and thrives on the mutual respect and camaraderie of the team. Outside of work, Justin enjoys playing soccer, rock climbing, hiking, being on the river, and just being outside. He loves to read, and is developing an interest in writing as well.
