Kiera Poehlmann, BA

Senior Guide

Kiera earned degrees in adventure education and sociology from Fort Lewis College and has worked in outdoor education prior to joining Open Sky as a field guide in 2020. She has guided backpacking trips on Lost Coast, Trinity Alps, and Tour du Mont Blanc. Kiera believes in the power of the wilderness to change mindsets, heal, and support. Her connection with nature has been most helpful and empowering in challenging times.

Kiera values her ability to grow together with the students and have ongoing conversations in which they share perspectives. Her strengths are her patience, positivity, and curiosity.

During her time off, Kiera pushes herself to grow through new and challenging activities such as climbing. She loves to cook for friends and bring people together for a meal. Playing with her nephews and spending time with family when possible is also a priority for her.

About Open Sky

Since 2006, Open Sky Wilderness Therapy has been providing the premier family-centered wilderness therapy experience. The Open Sky approach transcends traditional wilderness therapy by emphasizing treatment for the whole family not just the adolescent or young adult, and the application of evidence-based clinical modalities with innovative, well-researched holistic healing practices such as yoga, meditation and mindfulness.
