After receiving a Bachelor’s in History and a Master’s in Education from Lehigh University, Leah followed her passion for teaching. While teaching secondary social studies at a high school outside of Denver, she yearned for something deeper. She heard about Open Sky from a friend. Knowing she wanted to continue working with teenagers, she applied for guide training and was impressed by the inspiring work that took place in the field.
Leah transitioned into the role of Assistant Field Director shortly after becoming a Senior 3 field guide with over 400 field days. Her role as AFD with a focus on staff development allows her to integrate two of her passions: time in the field with students and mentoring guides. What she values most about her position is, “how I get to step into my power as a leader and mentor and empower others to step boldly into theirs as well.” By working with our guiding community, Leah believes that she is directly supporting the needs of our students and the company by “supporting the supporters.” Leah is passionate about this work and shares that, “our guides are the keepers of the light and fire at our company; they spend the most time with our students and deserve to be cared for and looked after so that they can continue to show up for our clients and for themselves.”
When not in the field, Leah enjoys mountain biking, playing guitar, hiking, snowboarding, and practicing martial arts.
