Before Maggie joined Open Sky as a Field Guide in January 2017, Maggie gained valuable and impactful experience facilitating cultural immersion and community development projects with high school youth in Nicaragua. After that, she worked in Yellowstone National Park facilitating employee recreation and guiding interpretive trips. She has a BS in Geography and a BA in Spanish from Texas State University.
Mindfulness and nature are the strongest therapeutic tools that Maggie uses in her own life. Through wilderness therapy, she is able to share that with others who are working to better themselves. She was drawn to Open Sky’s mindfulness and family-centered approach, and to its beautiful Southwest course area.
As a guide, Maggie values the community that exists in the field, and how it is focused around vulnerability, support and dedication to each other and to the students. She remains grounded in chaotic or stressful situations, and can give logistical and emotional support no matter what happens around her.
During her free time, she likes to be outdoors, running and climbing in the mountains. She also loves to create art with the people she loves.
