Before joining the Open Sky team, Rob had been working for the Boy Scouts at Philmont Scout Ranch in New Mexico as a Ranger. He graduated from Fort Lewis College in Durango, CO with a bachelor’s degree in psychology and a minor in adventure education.
Rob has always been attracted to the wilderness, growing up in the suburbs of Los Angeles. He became a boy scout and eventually an Eagle Scout, always loving hiking and backpacking in the woods with friends. It was the best way to get out of the city and find beautiful places. He grew up going to a therapist and always wanted to become a counselor and help people.
As a field guide, Rob values knowing that he is helping people not only in the wilderness skills but also in gaining skills to use in their lives outside of wilderness. Rob’s strengths are his patience, flexibility, and collaboration with his guide team.
During his time off, Rob likes to go hiking around Durango and Silverton, CO. He enjoys playing soccer and snowboards in the winter. He looks forward to doing more rock climbing in the area and getting back into painting.
