Shawna is an individual who seeks the outdoors as a way of healing and recentering herself. As a genuine person with a gentle soul, she is a kindhearted and open-minded addition to the Open Sky staff. She is originally from Steamboat Springs, Colorado, where she loved to adventure in the Yampa Valley. She attained backcountry survival skills and other outdoor skills through Colorado Mountain College in Steamboat Springs. After earning an Associate of Arts degree from CMC, she ventured over to the San Juan Mountains to pursue her love for teaching and influencing young lives by earning a bachelor’s degree in elementary education from Fort Lewis College. She aspires to be an uplifting and down-to-earth individual with a true passion for utilizing the outdoors as a way of becoming one with her roots and seeking clarity in both mental and spiritual consciousness. All those qualities contributed to her finding her path at Open Sky Wilderness Therapy.
From guiding rugged backcountry trail rides and being a full-time wrangler on a dude ranch to inspiring others on the slopes with eight years of experience as a PSIA certified ski and snowboard instructor, Shawna has a true passion for helping people grow through learning and is always motivating others to seek the outdoors. As a front desk administrator for Open Sky, Shawna holds a quiet confidence, knowing she’s the first impression someone gets when they either call into the company or show up at the main office. It takes a tremendous amount of courage and bravery to send your child to a multi-month wilderness program, and Shawna embodies the positive, upbeat energy to greet and welcome any and all individuals who arrive at the Open Sky Wilderness Therapy office. Her professionalism and ability to be flexible whenever a task arises reflects her passion and dedication to the front desk administrator role.
During her time off, she is always looking for adventure. Whether it’s hiking up rated gnar mountain peaks or dropping into champagne powder slopes on skis or playing with snowboards in the colder months, she connects to her inner soul through nature. She is also drawn to acrylic painting, crafting, working with horses, bass fishing, hunting, and spending time with the souls she loves most while living life to the fullest.
