Stephanie Walker, BA

Intake Specialist & Operations Support

Stephanie Walker is a long-time resident of Durango and is passionate about serving her community. She attended Fort Lewis College, where she received a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Stephanie has believed in the work and mission of Open Sky for a long time and is honored to be a part of the Open Sky team as they “inspire individuals to live in a way that honors values and strengthens relationships”.

Stephanie has used her education in a variety of settings, working largely in case management for vulnerable populations: geriatrics, people with disabilities, and mental health. She spent a year teaching English in a small village in Southern India, working one-on-one with primary and middle school students who came from broken families, many with behavioral challenges and learning disabilities. She came back with a rich experience and knowledge of Indian culture and religion and hopes to someday return. Working with people as they struggle with persistent mental health issues at all stages of life, Stephanie has grown to appreciate and understand the importance of early intervention and believes wholeheartedly in the power of working with adolescents and their families to emotionally heal and grow both as individuals and as a family unit.

In her spare time, you can catch Stephanie playing Scrabble at the local coffee shop, hiking and camping, or spending quality time at home cooking, playing music, solving sudoku puzzles and playing with her cat, Toulouse.
